New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has issued a directive to all states, requiring police forces to submit law and order reports every two hours via email, fax, or WhatsApp. This order follows the nationwide protests sparked by the recent rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

The directive, which was issued on August 16, 2024, asks for continuous updates starting at 4 pm that day. The reports are to be sent to the MHA control room in New Delhi, as the country faces widespread outrage over the incident.

The 31-year-old doctor’s body was discovered in a semi-naked state on August 9 in the seminar hall of the state-run medical college. A Kolkata Police civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, was arrested the following day in connection with the crime.

The Calcutta High Court has since transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is now set to conduct a psychoanalysis test of the accused with the help of experts from Delhi's Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL).

Doctors and medical students across the country have taken to the streets, demanding justice and calling for reforms to improve the working and living conditions of resident doctors. They are also pushing for the implementation of a central law to protect healthcare professionals from violence in the workplace.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.

The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.

The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.

They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.
