Uttar Pradesh SC/ST panel chair appointed without procedure, reveals RTI query
Lucknow, Sep 22 : Former Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Brij Lal, who joined the BJP after his retirement, was appointed the State SC/ST Commission chief arbitrarily and without due procedure, an RTI response has revealed.
The Right To Information (RTI) was filed by Lucknow-based activist Nutan Thakur. The Social Welfare Department responded to her query saying the 1977 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, who retired in 2014, was appointed directly by Chief Minister Adityanath, after summoning his file from the department.
As per the RTI information, Principal Secretary Social Welfare Department Manoj Singh was directed to present the position of appointments in the State Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission. Singh presented the file on April 17.
In this file, the Chief Minister directly appointed Lal as the chairman on the same day, without any departmental recommendation or process adopted in this regard.
The department was also "directed from the top" to provide "State Minister status" to Brij Lal, a proposal which was presented on April 20, without the recommendation of the departmental minister and Adityanath immediately approved it on the same day.
Thakur, the RTI activist told IANS that the matter "sadly demonstrates how major administrative decisions are being made under political pressure from the top, circumventing procedures".

KSRTC to run 1000 special services to clear Christmas rush
Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation will operate 1000 additional special services in view of the Christmas festival.
In addition to the existing schedule, the special services will run on 19.12.2025, 20.12.2025 and 24.12.2025. Further, special buses will be operated from various places of intra & Interstate places to Bengaluru on 26.12.2025 & 28.12.2025.
Special buses will be exclusively operated from Bengaluru Kempegowda Bus Station to Dharmastala, Kukkesubramanya, Shivamogga, Hassan, Mangaluru, Kundapura, Shringeri, Horanadu, Davangere, Hubbali, Dharwad, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Gokarna, Sirsi, Karwar, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Ballari, Koppala, Yadgir, Bidar, Tirupathi, Vijayawada, Hyderabad and other places.

Special buses from Mysuru Road Bus Station will be exclusively operated towards Mysuru, Hunsur, Piriyapatna, Virajpet, Kushalanagar, Madikeri.
The corporation has also announced a discount of 5 per cent on the fare if four or more passengers book tickets under a single reservation. A discount of 10 per cent will be extended on return journey tickets if onward and return tickets are booked simultaneously.
In addition to the above, special buses will be operated from all Taluk/District Bus Stands in the jurisdiction of KSRTC based on the traffic needs.
