Varanasi court reserves order for July 21 on plea seeking scientific survey of Gyanvapi mosque
Varanasi (UP)(PTI): A court here on Friday reserved its order for July 21 on a petition seeking a scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque located next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
The petition filed in the case by the Hindu side had sought a direction to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to survey the entire Gyanvapi mosque complex.
"We had put before the court the demand for an archaeological and scientific investigation of the entire Gyanvapi complex except the 'vaju khana'. After hearing both sides, the court reserved the verdict for July 21," said Vishnu Shankar Jain, the counsel for the Hindu side.
Jain said he argued that the Kashi Vishwanath temple-Gyanvapi mosque dispute can be resolved only by an archaeological investigation of the entire mosque complex.
He said that the situation can become clear after examining the three domes of the Gyanvapi complex, the western wall of the complex and the entire complex in a modern way.
"The Muslim side argued before the court that the archaeological survey could damage the complex, on which we placed before the court a demand for investigation in a modern way without damaging the premises," Jain added.
Earlier, in May, the Muslim side filed its objection to a petition seeking a direction to the ASI to survey the entire Gyanvapi mosque complex.
After an Allahabad High Court order, the Varanasi district court had on May 16 agreed to hear a plea for a survey by the ASI of the entire mosque premises.

Allen, Raghuvanshi, Green power KKR to 29-run win over GT
Kolkata (PTI): Finn Allen blasted a 35-ball 93, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi hit an unbeaten 44-ball 82 as Kolkata Knight Riders kept their playoff hopes alive with a 29-run win over Gujarat Titans in the IPL match here on Saturday.
Sent in to bat, Allen went on a six-hitting spree, smashing 10 maximums and four boundaries to add 95 off 41 balls with Raghuvanshi (82).
Raghuvanshi then shared another 108 off 53 balls with Cameron Green (52 not out) to power KKR to a challenging 247 for 2.
In reply, GT could manage 218-4, riding on skipper Shubman Gill's 49-ball 85 and a 35-ball 57 from Jos Buttler. Opener Sai Sudarsan was retired hurt but returned to make a 28-ball 53 not out.
Sunil Narine (2/29) claimed two wickets and Saurabh Dubey snapped one for KKR.
For GT, Mohammed Siraj (1/50), Sai Kishore (1/38) were the wicket-takers.
