New Delhi: The controversial Waqf Amendment Bill, which has faced strong criticism from Muslim organisations and opposition parties, was introduced in the Lok Sabha this afternoon (Wednesday).

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, tabled the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.

The Parliamentary Affairs Advisory Committee has allocated eight hours for discussions on the bill, which has been met with intense criticism from Muslim organisations and opposition parties. If necessary, this time limit may be extended further.

The central government is eager to get the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill passed in the Lok Sabha today itself. If the bill is approved in the Lok Sabha today, reports suggest that the government intends to introduce it in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow.
