The Parliamentary Affairs Advisory Committee has allocated eight hours for discussions on the bill, which has been met with intense criticism from Muslim organisations and opposition parties. If necessary, this time limit may be extended further.
The central government is eager to get the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill passed in the Lok Sabha today itself. If the bill is approved in the Lok Sabha today, reports suggest that the government intends to introduce it in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow.

Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has issued an interim stay on the FIR against Sringeri legislator DN Jeevaraj, who is accused of vote rigging.
A vacation bench consisting of Justice V Sreeshananda heard on Tuesday the BJP MLA’s plea urging the HC to quash the case against him.
After hearing the arguments, the judge granted an interim stay on the case against Jeevaraj.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned to Thursday, May 7.
