Woman pushed off train while resisting snatchers in Bengal's Purba Medinipur; two arrested

Kolkata (PTI): A woman passenger was seriously injured after she was allegedly pushed off the Howrah–Puri Dhauli Express near Kolaghat in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district on Sunday while resisting a snatching attempt, a district police official said.
Two snatchers were later arrested by the villagers and handed over to the railway police.
Sarama Hazra was pushed from the moving train when she confronted the two snatchers who attempted to pull the gold chain from her neck, the official said, quoting her family members and local residents. As the train was moving slowly, the two snatchers also jumped off the train to escape.
Hazra fell by the side of the tracks and screamed for help. Local villagers rushed to the spot and rescued her, and also caught the two accused, who were then handed over to railway police after being thrashed, officials said.
The 45-year-old Kolkata's Behala resident was first taken to Kharagpur Railway Hospital and later shifted to a hospital in the metropolis as one of her hands had sustained severe injuries.
Her condition is stated to be stable but serious, with doctors considering surgery to prevent amputation, the relative added.

Man in Nellore held for duping youngsters with promise of TTD job; Rs 25.2 lakh seized
Tirupati: Vedayapalayam Police of Nellore district have arrested a 44-year-old man under charge of having duped unemployed youngsters by winning their trust by promising them jobs at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
Nellore Additional Superintendent of Police Deeksha has said that the investigation team has confiscated Rs 25.2 lakh cash that the arrested, identified as Sheik Hussain, had collected from the victims.
Hussain was allegedly greatly attracted to a variety of vices that would provide him a lavish lifestyle. In order to fulfill his desires, he began luring unemployed by assuring that he would help them find jobs. He successfully duped around 15 jobless youngsters from Nellore town and nearby areas and collected up to Rs 48 lakh from them.
The Vedayapalayam Police, who registered a case based on the complaints filed by the victims. Two special teams, from the Central Crime Station and the Vedayapalayam Starion, which probed the matter succeeded in arresting Hussain on Saturday.
The arrested was produced in court and sent to police custody.
