Senior Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi on Monday differed with his party on the abrogation of Article 370, saying a "historical mistake" has been corrected by the government.

 The Delhi Traffic Police created a green corridor to shift the Unnao rape survivor to the AIIMS Trauma Centre from the IGI Airport on Monday, covering a distance of around 14 km in 18 minutes, officials said.

Jammu and Kashmir's former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah --- who were placed under house arrest late last evening - have been arrested, sources said. Mehbooba Mufti has been taken from her home in Srinagar to a nearby government guest house.

The rupee nosedived 113 paise or 1.62 per cent against the US dollar and breached the 70-mark on Monday, news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

The Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir will have a Lt Governor and the strength of the Assembly will be 107, which will be further enhanced to 114 after a delimitation exercise is carried out.

Rajya Sabha on Monday approved a resolution abrogating Article 370 for Jammu and Kashmir and a bill to bifurcate the state into two union territories with Home Minister Amit Shah saying the controversial provisions were responsible for poverty and lack of development in the state.

The Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, polarised opinion among legal experts on Monday with one section saying it is a legal, historic step and another of the view that it is a complicated move fraught with serious political consequences. 

Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday moved a resolution in the Lok Sabha for bringing a bill to reorganise the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
