Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Lt Gen (retd) D S Hooda's remarks that it would have been better if the 2016 surgical strikes were carried out secretly, alleging that the PM used the military action for "political capital".

A woman teacher of a private school here was suspended for allegedly putting sellotape across the mouths of two LKG children to keep them quiet during a class, school authorities said Saturday.

The initial euphoria over the success of the surgical strike was natural but the constant hype around it is unwarranted, said a former Army officer who was associated with the operation. "I do think there was too much hype over it. The military operation was important and we had to do it. Now how much should it have been politicised, whether it is right or wrong is something that should be asked to politicians," said Lieutenant General DS Hooda (retired) who was the Northern Army Commander when the operation was carried out on September 29, 2016 across the Line of Control (LoC).

“I have clarity on all development works including loan waiver. The coalition government has been working beyond the expectations. Visual media has been looking at the government with yellow eyes and ‘campaigning’ against the government for the last seven months saying that it would collapse today and tomorrow”, said Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

The political battle in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh is expected to go down to the wire with the exit polls predicting a hung assembly in both the states.
