Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner and Election Returning Officer Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday informed that 15 vehicles worth Rs. 1.08 crore and another 31 lakh rupees have so far been seized by the authorities in different cases in the wake of violating election Code of Conduct in the district.
Speaking at a press conference organised to brief about the preparations for the elections in the district the Deputy Commissioner also informed that 84,885 litres of illegal liquor worth over 94.5 lakh rupees was also seized during the period since election code of conduct was put into effect.
8920 personnel will work at 1861 polling stations in the district and 668 vehicles have been arranged for their transportations and commutations, he informed.
“Election campaigning will be banned from Tuesday 6.pm. No campaigner from outside the district can stay within the district. Supervisors have been deployed to keep a check on this. They will also check hotels and lodgings to make sure no campaigner from outside the district is staying here” Senthil said.
Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Laxmi Prasad was also present at the press conference along with Senthil.

Varanasi (UP) (PTI): Over 150 two-wheelers were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a parking stand in Varanasi's Cantt railway station, officials said on Saturday.
There were no reports of any casualties.
The incident took place on Friday night when the fire erupted near the platform one parking stand, according to railway officials.
Upon receiving information about the incident, teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the fire department rushed to the spot to douse the flames, they said.
The blaze was brought under control but over 150 vehicles were reduced to ashes, they added.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager Lalji Chaudhary expressed regret over the incident.
He said that the parking stand was set up for railway employees and because of the fire there has been a lot of damage.
There has been no loss of life of any kind in the fire, Chaudhary said, adding that a committee has been formed to investigate the matter.
