Mangaluru: As part of inauguration of the Bearys Arena sports ground at Bearys Institute of Technology. A football tournament was held for PUC colleges of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod districts on Saturday and Sunday.
As many as 23 teams participated in the tournament, out of which four teams - The Anjuman college Bhatkal, Yenepoya college Mangalore, Kavery college Medikeri and Chemnad college kasaragod- reached in the semifinals. Of these, Yenepoya and Kavery college teams entered into the finals and finally Yenepoya college emerged victorious with 2-0, which bagged the cash price of Rupees twenty five thousand with trophy and the runner up got Rupees fifteen thousand with the trophy.
Mr. suman from Yenepoya adjudged with the Best Player of the Tournament, Mr. Manoj Gowda from Yenepoya as the Best Goal keeper, Mr. Aman from Yenepoya as the Best Striker and the best defender title went to Mr. Saifuddin M. H. from Kaveri college Medikeri.
Bearys Group Chairman Mr. Syed Mohammed Beary spoke at the prize distribution ceremony.
Principal of BIT, Dr. S.I. Manjur Basha, Principal of BEADS, Ar. Ashok Mendonca, Event Coordinator Dr. Mahendra , Media in charge Dr. Abdullah Gubbi, Physical Education Director, Safwan Khan, faculties, students and others witnessed the tournament. Before distributing the prizes, the Chairman addressed the players and encouraged them for the performances.

Kundapur: Two persons died and several students were injured after a college tour bus rammed into a tanker and a goods lorry parked by the roadside near Maravanthe Beach in Trasi on Wednesday afternoon.
The bus was carrying final-year B.Com students of Rambhapuri College from Shivamogga district. According to sources, the group had left for the tour two days ago.
There were around 50 persons in the bus, including 24 male students and 23 female students.
The students had visited Murdeshwar and were travelling towards Udupi on Wednesday when the accident occurred.
Police said the bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, following which the bus first hit a parked gas tanker and then crashed into a goods lorry stationed ahead.
The front portion of the bus was badly mangled in the impact. Preliminary information said the bus cleaner and a cooking assistant travelling with the group died in the accident. Several injured students were shifted to different hospitals in Kundapur for treatment.
