Mangaluru: The Bearys Group of Institutions, Mangalore, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor and enthusiasm at the Bearys Knowledge Campus, Innoli. The event began at 9:00 AM, with Summaya Nasir from 7th Semester AI & DS delivering the warm welcome address, while Mohammad Hashim efficiently compered the program.
The celebrations were graced by Prof. Naveenchandra Kumar, Chairman, Dept. of Electronics and Cybersecurity, Mangalore University, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Syed Mohamed Beary, Chairman and Managing Trustee, Bearys Academy of Learning, who presided over the function.
In his presidential address, Mr. Syed Mohamed Beary emphasized three major threats to the nation—complacency, corruption, and communalism—and urged everyone to remain vigilant against them. He further highlighted that true independence is achieved when every citizen has access to three meals a day, good health, and adequate shelter.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Naveenchandra Kumar recalled the significant contributions of the local people of Mangalore in the freedom struggle. He lauded the institution for fostering a spirit of patriotism among students and organizing various competitions to mark the occasion.
As part of the celebrations, multiple competitions—speech, drawing, and singing—were held, with enthusiastic participation from students across different institutions under the Bearys Group. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners, recognizing their talents and efforts.

Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.
Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.
Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
