Mangaluru: The Youth Wing of Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) was formally launched at a ceremony held at the Ocean Pearl Hotel in Mangaluru on January 6, 2026. The event brought together business leaders, professionals, and members of the Beary community to discuss entrepreneurship, community growth, and the role of trade in shaping the future.
The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Badruddin Panambur. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, Secretary of the chamber, welcomed the gathering and also served as the Master of Ceremony for the event.
The keynote address was delivered by General Secretary of BCCI Mohammed Imthiyaz, who explained the reasons and objectives behind the formation of the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He spoke at length about the shortcomings faced by the Beary community as a business community when compared to other established business communities in India. He said these gaps could be addressed through focused efforts, especially by encouraging the younger generation to think beyond traditional limitations and actively enter the world of business and entrepreneurship. He urged the youth to work towards making the Beary community a leading force among business communities in the country.
Guest speaker Yezdani Feroze, in his address, said the Beary community has the potential to lead Muslims in India through trade and business. He stated that the world does not reward hard work alone, but rewards people who think, adding that entrepreneurs are essentially professional thinkers. He stressed that the Muslim ummah cannot afford to produce more job seekers and must instead focus on creating job providers and history makers.
Highlighting the importance of ideas, he said every object around us, from mobile phones and laptops to simple chairs, was once an idea in someone’s mind. He noted that every revolution and invention began as an idea that someone refused to let go. He called for the creation of idea forums to support young entrepreneurs and help them develop and work on their ideas.
During the programme, M A Gafoor, newly appointed Chairman of the Coastal Development Authority, was felicitated. Shahid Thekkil, Chairman of the Karnataka Minimum Wage Board Commission, was also honoured on the occasion.
In his address, M A Gafoor thanked the organisers for the felicitation and for recognising his achievement. He affirmed his commitment to the development of coastal Karnataka and said he would focus on promoting tourism in the region. Shahid Thekkil also spoke at the event and expressed hope that the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry would play a key role in creating more entrepreneurs from the community.
The presidential address was delivered by S M Rashid Haji, who thanked all the guests and participants for attending the launch programme. He officially announced the inauguration of the Youth Wing of the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Four coordinators were appointed for the Youth Wing: Zeeshan Ramlan, CEO of Talentzy, Asshar Razaq, Ayaan Haris, and Muhammed Shahbaz.
Explaining the purpose behind launching the Youth Wing, he said the initiative was not just about opening a new wing or holding monthly meetings, but about creating entrepreneurs and contributing to long-term community building.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by BCCI Treasurer Mansoor Ahmed.

Mumbai (PTI): The Bombay High Court on Wednesday dismissed gangster Abu Salem’s plea for immediate release, claiming he had served 25 years in jail in India mandated under the terms of his extradition from Portugal.
In his plea, Salem had contended that if remission for good behaviour is included, then his 25-year jail term is complete and hence he ought to be freed.
A bench of Justices A S Gadkari and Kamal Khata said it cannot hold that the 25-year jail term is complete, as it would be premature to say anything at this stage on the point of remission.
The court relied on a Supreme Court judgment wherein it was held that remission of a prisoner would need to be calculated a month before the applicant’s release.
“Therefore, the present petition (filed by Salem) is dismissed,” the court said.
A copy of the detailed order is yet to be made available.
Salem’s plea, filed through advocate Farhana Shah, had said that when he was extradited from Portugal in 2005, India had assured that he would not be handed over the death penalty in any case and that he would not be imprisoned for more than 25 years.
The government had opposed his plea, noting that Salem has spent only 19 years in jail and that a decision on his premature release was pending.
Salem was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case and sentenced to life imprisonment.
