Mangaluru: All India Muslim Development Council has announced its plan to plant ten lakh saplings in Dakshina Kannada District to stress upon the need of green environment in the region following water scarcity problem the District faced during summer, earlier this year.

In a press release issued by the council, it stressed upon the need of planting trees to save the planet. “Due to depleting number of trees, the temperature of the planet has gone up and continues to be on rise. The average rainfall is also dipping every year. We are heading towards running out of underground water. All these are not good signs for the planet so we have planned to take this initiative of planting ten lakh trees in the District”.
The council added that Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) had also stressed upon conserving forest and green environment and that it is of great importance in Islam. “Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) had time and again stressed on conserving forest and planting trees. The initiative is also in line with this” the press release added.
If we donate blood, we can save one life. If we plant trees it will help us save several families at once. Protecting Environment has great importance in Islam and if we see the current scenario and reports of environment it is very alarming and it is very important for us all to stand up and work towards improvising the condition. It is in line with the same context that All India Muslim Development Council is taking this initiative to play our role to safeguard the environment” the President of the organisation's Dakshina Kannada chapter Ahmed Mohiddin told Vartha Bharati.
The council has reportedly received assurance of support for the initiative from several mosques and other organisation and it is expecting support from every mosque from the District to support the cause. Thrissur (Kerala) (PTI): A man was arrested on Monday after a 14-year-old boy was killed when a car overturned during a stunt-driving incident at Chamakala Rajiv Road beach in Chentrappinni here, police said.
The arrested accused was identified as Shajeer alias Saddam (36), a native of Kurikkuzhi in Kaipamangalam.
According to police, the incident occurred around 6 pm on Sunday when the accused allegedly performed dangerous drifting manoeuvres with an open-top Gypsy vehicle at the beach, without following any safety norms.
The accused picked up three minors — Mohammed Sinan (14), Mohammed Shafeer (14) and Ameer (12) — who were playing at the beach, and made them sit at the rear of the vehicle before driving recklessly.
While performing the drifting stunt, the vehicle went out of control and overturned, trapping Sinan underneath.
He suffered severe head injuries and succumbed to the impact, police said.
Based on a complaint, Kaipamangalam police registered a case under Section 105 (culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
After completing the preliminary probe, police arrested Shajeer on Monday.
He was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, police said.
