Another COVID-19 death reported in Dakshina Kannada; 75-year old Bantwal woman passes away
Mangaluru: In the latest development in the spread of Corona Virus in the District, another woman died in the city’s Wenlock Hospital due to the deadly virus on Thursday evening, taking the tally of deaths due to virus in the District to two.
The 75-year old patient reportedly belonged to Bantwal and was a relative of the woman who had died due to the virus on April 19 in the city, the District’s first COVID-19 death.
The reports of swab samples of the woman had returned positive earlier in the day today, and she breathed her last of Thursday when she was admitted to Wenlock Hospital for treatment here.

HC rejects Mahesh Shetty Thimarody’s plea challenging externment
Bengaluru: The High Court has rejected the application filed by activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody challenging Puttur Assistant Commissioner’s externment order sending him out of Dakshina Kannada district.
Puttur AC Stella Varghese had issued the order, externing Shetty to Manvi taluk of Raichur district on March 13, 2026.
Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum, who earlier heard the plea filed by Shetty and kept the judgment pending, said on Thursday that the activist’s application was being rejected.
Stating that the petition was invalid, the judge clarified that the activist could file an application challenging the order with the Home Secretary. He also directed the state government not to take any action in connection with the case for two weeks.
