Manipal: Another man diagnosed with Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), died at Manipal’s KMC hospital on Friday March 1.

The victim has been identified as Parshwanatha (68) a resident of Sagar Taluk in Shimoga district.

Going by the official figure, 9 KFD cases were detected in Shimoga district. Of which three of them died while being treated at hospitals in Manipal.

KFD is caused by a virus belonging to the family Flaviviridae, which also includes yellow fever and dengue fever.

The symptoms of the disease include a high fever with frontal headaches, followed by haemorrhagic symptoms, such as bleeding from the nasal cavity, throat, and gums etc.

The KFD broke out in Shimoga and other adjoining districts late in 2018, and several cases have been detected ever since. However, Medical administrations in Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts have assure that no cases were reported positive, even after several suspected deaths of monkeys were reported in both the districts.
