Assault case: Two sentenced 26 days jail
Mangalore, May 26: District and sessions court sentenced 26 days jail and Rs. 10000 fine for each in connection with assault case in Peribail beach in Someshwar village here on January 12 last year.
Gururaj (25) and John Baptist (22) both residents of Saraswati Nagar in Dwaraka, Someshwar are the convicts.
The court has instructed the convicts to spend three more months in jail failing to pay the fine.
Judge K.S Bilagi has also said that the half of the amount of the fine should be paid to the victim as compensation.
Muhammad Iqbal who was playing volleyball in Peribail was speaking to one Mansoor. Gururaj and John Baptist came to the spot in two bikes and started abusing Iqbal. They then hit Iqbal with iron rod with the intention to kill him.
As Iqbal screamed for help and locals rushed for help the attackers fled from the spot.
Assault and attempt to murder was filed in Ullal police station. Due to lack of evidence the accused were acquitted in attempt to murder case.
The SI of Ullal police station Rajendra had investigated the case and submitted the chargesheet.

Minor girl kidnapped and raped; main accused and two cafe owners held
Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.
Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.
Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
