Bantwal,May 11: A group of assailants carried out a deadly attack on Bantwal Congress Election Campaign Chairman, Rai's friend and Billava leader Sanjeev Poojari at his house in Marnabail near Melkar on Thursday night.
It has been accused that the miscreants thronged into Poojari's house and attacked his wife and staff member besides damaging his car.
While Poojari was going in his car on Thursday night, a group of assailants reportedly stopped the four-wheeler, dragged out who all were sitting in it and started beating them.
Later, they thronged into Sanjeev Poojari's house and carried out a deadly attack on his wife and escaped. Poojari's staff members Shankar, Ammi, Iqbal, and others have been injured in the attack.
Minister Ramanath Rai along with party leaders, workers, visited the spot; admitted the Injured to Thumbe private hospital. Additional SP Sujeet, IPS officer Akshay, and other officers are investigating the case.
The Congress leaders have given four separate complaints about the incident. More details are yet to be ascertained by the police department.
The police department, which has already identified the Bantwal constituency as the most sensitive communal area, has beefed up the security in the area in the wake of the Assembly polls and has been conducting special surveillance across the constituency as well as deployed Central Armed Forces. The violence that has erupted before polling day is leading to a widespread anxiety in the civil society.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.
“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.
The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.
Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
