Bantwal: The low-lying areas in Bantwal have once again flooded with the water flowing from Nethravathi River after a break of one day.

Meanwhile, Tahsildar Purandara Hegde has announced holiday for all the schools in the taluk today (August. 16).

The water level in the Netravati River has once again risen after rains continued to lash this morning. The taluk authorities have warned the people who are living nearby river to shift to safer locations.

The Netravati river water, which has thrown the normal life out of gear in Bantwal and Panemangaluru, was reduced yesterday evening. The river, which was raised at the height of 10.4 meters, was reduced to 7 to 8 meters yesterday. But the water level is rising again on Thursday morning and is now close to the danger mark as it has reached 8.6 meters at 7 am.

The power supply is frequently being disrupted. In all, the people of Bantwal have been badly hit by the downpour.

Gumla (PTI): Three persons were arrested on Monday for allegedly raping two women at a village in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, police said.

All the three accused have been remanded to judicial custody, Gumla Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge, Mahendra Karmali, told PTI.

According to police, one of the women had been called to Gumla Sadar by her boyfriend on Sunday for an outing.

“She arrived at the spot accompanied by a female. The woman’s boyfriend then called a friend, and they took the two women to a secluded place in Sisai police station area in the evening, forcibly made them consume alcohol before raping them,” the officer said.

The accused later called another man to the spot, who also allegedly raped the women, he said.

“The women later reached the Sadar Police Station and lodged a complaint on Sunday night. Police conducted raids and nabbed the three accused on Monday,” he added.

Further investigation is underway.
