Bantwal: In an incident that occurred on Monday night, a group of criminals entered a Mosque in Farangipete and assaulted religious leader who was sleeping inside the building. A complaint has been registered in this regard at the Bantwal Rural Police Station.
The religious leader of the Birrul Walidain Mosque at Farangipete – Ammemaar Road, resident of Kundapur, Musthaq was assaulted by the criminals late at night. While attempting to escape from the criminals, he reportedly hurt his leg and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Thumbe.
The team of three criminals who entered the Mosque around 12 o'clock midnight, proceeded to assault Musthaq, who was sleeping on the second floor of the Mosque. The criminals allegedly caught hold of Musthaq’s neck but he managed to push his assaulters and escape to the first floor of the mosque and saved himself, the complaint registered with the police reveals.
Reportedly, while running away from his attackers, Musthaq sustained injuries to his leg for which he is receiving treatment. Although the CCTV cameras inside the mosque captured the scene of criminals entering the building, their faces were hidden behind the helmets worn by them, the complaint reveals. The Mosque President, Sayed Bawa registered a complaint at the Bantwal Rural police station about the incident.
Salim Farangipete, the Bantwal Taluk President of the Popular Front of India, has stated his condemnations concerning the assault on the religious leader inside the Mosque.
Salim Farangipete visited Musthaq, who is receiving treatment in the hospital, and enquired about his health. He expressed that in recent days Mosques, Temples including Churches were being targeted by criminals, who sought to ruin the atmosphere of peace in the society. The police department must conduct serious investigations surrounding such cases and take stern legal action against the accused. Similarly, for the upcoming month of Ramzan, the police must provide added security to mosques, he said.

Erode (Tamil Nadu) (PTI): Minor brothers who were awaiting their board exam results have drowned in a canal in this district while spending their Summer holidays at their aunt's place, police said.
According to Arachalure Police, Santhosh, aged 17, and his younger brother Sanjai, aged 15, natives of Musiri village in Tiruchirapalli district, came to Gopaliparai hamlet near Arachalure to their Aunt's house a couple of days ago after writing their annual 12th and 10th examinations, respectively.
The police said on Friday that both boys went to the nearby Lower Bhavani Project canal to take a bath. It was alleged that while taking a bath, both boys went to a deeper area of the canal and went missing.
As they didn't return home, even two hours after they left, their aunt grew suspicious and informed the Fire and Rescue Services, Chennimalai. A rescue team from the department rushed to the spot. After a few minutes of searching, they located the dead bodies of the brothers and sent them to the hospital. Arachalure police registered a case of death due to drowning and are investigating.
