Mangaluru: The Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, Mangaluru, has announced its honorary awardees for 2024. Maksood Ahmed from Bengaluru, Haider Ali from Katipalla, and P.M. Hasanabba from Moodbidri have been selected for their contributions to Beary language, literature, and culture.
Maksood Ahmed, originally from Mulki and a former president of the Beary’s Welfare Association in Bengaluru, has been chosen under the category of 'Beary language and organisation.' Haider Ali, a noted Beary poet, was selected under the ‘literature’ category, while singer P.M. Hasanabba has been recognised for his contribution to Beary culture and art.
The recipients will receive a cash prize of ₹50,000 and a citation. The recipients were selected by a committee constituted by the academy and will be conferred at a ceremony in Mysuru on August 10, according to an official release issued on Wednesday.

Palghar (PTI): Police have arrested a man after seizing drugs valued at Rs 6.23 lakh from his possession in Maharashtra's Palghar district, officials said on Sunday.
Based on intelligence inputs, the police conducted a raid at Dhaniv Bagh in the Nalasopara area on December 4 and apprehended the man.
During a search, they recovered brown sugar valued at Rs 6 lakh and Nitrazepam (a psychotropic drug) tablets costing Rs 23,628 from his possession, a police release said.
The accused, identified as Salim Bagion alias Sardar Chacha (40), was arrested and booked under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the release said.
The accused is a habitual offender. He has 12 previous cases registered against him, including three under the NDPS Act, the police said.
