Mangaluru, August 17: Dubai-based Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) has organized a programme to distribute scholarships and sewing machines to the students of poor background at the town hall here on August 19 at 9.30 am.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, BCF patron BM Mumtaz Ali said that the BCF has been giving away the scholarships to the students of poor background for the last 16 years and this year, more than 500 students from PUC to PG would get the benefit.
At the same time, around 50 women from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada would get sewing machines. In order to encourage the rural women of the Coastal Karnataka, an art exhibition would also be conducted, he said.
UAE London American City College director Dr Kaup Muhammad would conduct a vocational guidance symposium and seminar to be held during the inaugural programme. Talent Research Foundation Mangaluru president Riyaz Ahmed Kannur would give information on education and employment opportunities from central and state governments, he said.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath would inaugurate the programme which will be presided over by BCF president Dr BK Yusuf. Azad Group of Companies director Mansoor Ahmed, Mangaluru University registrar Dr AM Khan, DKSC working president Hatim Kanchi, Misba Women’s College principal Zahid Jaleel would be present as chief guests, he said.
Stage programme to be held at 2pm would be inaugurated by Higher Education Minister GT Deve Gowda, while Urban Development and Housing Minister UT Khader would give away the scholarships and Dr BK Yusuf would preside over the programme, he said.
MLCs Ivon D’Souza and BM Farooq, Bearys Group chairman Syed Beary, Yenepoya University vice chancellor Y Abdulla Kunhi, former MLA BA Moideen Bava, former MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Vishwas Bava Builders managing director Abdul Rauf Puttige, Al Muzain Group chairman Zakaria Jokatte, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy chairman Haji Muhammad Karambaru, Senate member Dr UT Ifthikar, Mukka Sea Food MD K Muhammad Haris, Beary’s Welfare Forum Abu Dhabi president Muhammad Ali Uchila, Karnataka NRI Forum UAE president Praveen Shetty and others would be present, he said.
The students who scored more marks in SSLC, PUC and Madrasa public exams would also be felicitated on the occasion, he added.
BCF scholarship committee chairman ME Mulur, general secretary Dr Kaup Muhammad, vice president Abdul Latheef Mulki, and others were present.

Gumla (PTI): Three persons were arrested on Monday for allegedly raping two women at a village in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, police said.
All the three accused have been remanded to judicial custody, Gumla Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge, Mahendra Karmali, told PTI.
According to police, one of the women had been called to Gumla Sadar by her boyfriend on Sunday for an outing.
“She arrived at the spot accompanied by a female. The woman’s boyfriend then called a friend, and they took the two women to a secluded place in Sisai police station area in the evening, forcibly made them consume alcohol before raping them,” the officer said.
The accused later called another man to the spot, who also allegedly raped the women, he said.
“The women later reached the Sadar Police Station and lodged a complaint on Sunday night. Police conducted raids and nabbed the three accused on Monday,” he added.
Further investigation is underway.
