Mangaluru: The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Bearys Institute of Technology on 9th October 2024 inaugurated its student association, BIT - Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Visionaries Association (BIT-ADVA). The event featured Aravind Kumar, Center Manager of Comedkares Innovation Hub, as the Chief Guest, and Saeeda Qasim, Program Facilitator, as the Guest of Honor.

The inauguration commenced with a heartfelt prayer, setting a reflective tone for the proceedings. Dr. Mehaboob Mujawar, Head of the Department of AI & DS, inspired students with a keynote address emphasising the importance of excelling in academics, innovation, ethics, and community service.

Dr. S. I. Manjur Basha, Principal of the institute, spoke about the significance of Computer Science-related fields and the vast career opportunities available for talented individuals.

In his address, Chief Guest of the event Aravind Kumar highlighted the importance of social innovation, urging students to embrace creativity and purpose in their academic journeys. Guest of Honor Saeeda Qasim introduced the Comedkares Innovation Hub and invited students to engage in its diverse courses, fostering a spirit of collaboration and learning.

The event, coordinated by Dr. Mehaboob Mujawar, included a seamless blend of inspiration and engagement. The vote of thanks was delivered by Rafiah Fathima, while Thabsheera introduced the Chief Guest. Shama served as the Master of Ceremony, ensuring a smooth flow of the program.

As part of welcoming the new batch, Farya extended warm greetings to the freshers and presented them with tokens of welcome. Dr. Aziz Mustafa also delivered an uplifting talk on the importance and future growth of Artificial Intelligence, motivating students to view AI as a powerful force for change.

Ranchi (PTI): A 60-year-old security guard of a temple in Ranchi was bludgeoned to death with a stone during a robbery attempt, police said on Saturday.

The incident happened late on Thursday at the Jagannath Temple in the Dhurwa Smart City area, they said.

"Three persons were arrested on Friday for killing the security guard. They confessed to the crime and told police that the victim had identified them. Therefore, in fear of being caught, they killed him by attacking him with a stone on his head," SSP Rakesh Ranjan said.

"Thereafter, they took money from the donation box and fled the scene. Two of them have criminal antecedents," he added.

Ranjan said the investigators recovered Rs 3 lakh in cash that had been robbed, the stone with blood-stained marks, and the iron rod used to break open the lock of the donation box kept there.

An FIR in this regard was lodged at the Dhurwa police station, he said, adding that the accused were sent to judicial custody by a court.
