Belthangady: Police investigation into an alleged kidnapping attempt involving a college student in Belthangady has revealed that the incident did not take place and was fabricated by the student, officials said.
The case came to light on Monday after a 16-year-old college student reported that three masked men in a car had tried to kidnap her while she was riding a scooter in Sudemugeru area of Belthangady at around 8:30 am on February 9. She had told the police that the men attacked her with a knife, injured her hand and fled after she shouted.
Following the complaint, the injured student was admitted to the Belthangady Government Hospital for treatment.
Police launched an intensive search operation based on the details provided by the student, including a lookout for an Omni car allegedly used by the accused. However, no such vehicle was traced during the day-long search.
It has been revealed during the police investigation that she pretended to be kidnapped by stabbing herself in the hand with a blade because she did not want to go to college.
Police said the matter is still under review and further details will be known after completing the investigation.
