Belthangady: A fresh statement of Chinnayya, complainant-witness in the Dharmasthala mass burial case, is expected to be recorded soon by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is probing the case.
Chinnayya, who has been arrested for perjury and is currently been imprisoned, recently told the Belthangady court that he stated before the SIT that he had buried more than 10 corpses, sources have said. The SIT is now reportedly recording his official statement in order to collect more information about the issue.
The police team has already collected the statements of Chinnayya’s wife Mallika and his sister Ratna in connection to the case.
Further, the police officers are expected to take Chinnayya into custody again and interrogate him as the statements of the complainant-witness are found to be haphazard and inconsistent.
Since the SIT requires court permission to record a fresh statement of the complainant-witness, however, the officers are expected to approach the court on Wednesday for the permission. The court is also expected to grant permission within a couple of days.

Rajouri/Jammu (PTI): One person died while seven others, mostly children, were hospitalised after allegedly consuming a wild vegetable in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, officials said on Saturday.
The incident was reported from Mohra village in the Kotranka subdivision, where members of two families consumed a wild vegetable following which they started showing symptoms of food poisoning on Friday evening, they said.
The affected persons were initially shifted to the Community Health Centre in Kandi and later referred to the Government Medical College Hospital Rajouri for specialised treatment.
Officials said an elderly man, identified as Mohammad Hussain (60), died during treatment, while seven other members of the two families are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“Prima facie, it is a case of food poisoning, but the matter is still under investigation,” a doctor said.
Officials said an investigation into the incident has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the poisoning.
