Mangaluru: A young man named Dhiraj, who had been injured in the road accident on Sunday was declared brain-dead by the doctors on Tuesday, after which, his family reportedly decided to donate his organs. 

The organ donation process will reportedly be carried out at the private hospital in the city on Tuesday, following the wishes of the deceased’s family. City police commissioner N. Shashikumar informed that a team from Chennai was scheduled to arrive in Mangaluru in a private airplane to collect the organs from the private hospital. 

On Sunday, a bike had reportedly crashed into the divider after the rider of the vehicle lost control over the two-wheeler resulting in serious injuries to two people in front of Masood Education and Charitable Trust beside Usmaniya Complex at Bikarnakatte. 

The visuals of the accident were captured in the CCTV installed in the area, which showed the bike crashing into the divider after the rider lost control of the vehicle. The two people on the bike had been thrown onto the divider due to the impact of the crash, it is learned. 

The injured, identified as Ganesh, is receiving treatment at the hospital. Reportedly, Ganesh had offered a lift to his friend Dhiraj on his bike and was taking him home on Sunday night when the duo met with an accident at National Highway 73. Observing the two men grievously injured after their bike crashed into the divider, an auto-rickshaw driver named Praveen Kumar, who was passing through the area reportedly helped take both the injured men to the hospital with the help of the locals. 

A case has been registered in this regard at the traffic police station.

Pilibhit (PTI): A 19-day-old elephant calf, brought from Bijnor, was placed under care at the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) on Sunday, an official said and added that the calf got separated from its mother in the forest area of Bijnor.

The calf was born on December 2 in the Bijnor forest area and got separated from its mother shortly after birth, the official said.

The forest department made several attempts to reunite it with its mother, but without any success. To ensure the calf's safety and better care, it was decided to transfer it to the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve on the instructions of senior officials.

On Saturday, Deputy Director Manish Singh received the calf. Special arrangements have been made in the reserve for its care. It has been kept in a safe and clean environment to provide it with a natural setting and protect it from external noise and disturbances.

Singh told reporters that raising an 19-day-old calf is challenging.

It requires a special diet as a substitute for mother's milk and constant monitoring.

He said a special team has been formed to provide 24-hour care. Since the calf is very young, it is being cared for like a newborn baby.

According to Singh, the primary responsibility for monitoring the calf's health has been entrusted to PTR's veterinarian, Dr Daksh Gangwar. Under his supervision, a complete record of the calf's health checkups, diet, and body temperature is being maintained. The team is ensuring that the calf does not contract any infection.
