Mangaluru : Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda on Sunday said the ensuing Assembly election in the state is significant for national politics as its results will have an impact on the assembly elections in other states and also on the 2019 general election.

He was speaking at the press meet held at Dakshina Kannada district Congress office.

"Congress has to fight the false propaganda being carried out in Social media. But the party has presented a very good manifesto. It is the voice of people of Karnataka and prepared by senior leader like Veerappa Moily. I have also given some suggestions. Party manifesto has   a broad outline for increasing income of farmers, providing free education to children and generating 1 crore jobs in the next five years " said Pitroda.

"Those who say there is no development in last 70 years are insulting the people of India. People should give them a befitting reply in the election. While the average life expectancy of Indians has greatly improved, infant mortality rate has drastically come down. Polio eradication campaign taken up by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is giving fruits now. Bengaluru is known globally as Silicon Valley. Don't they consider all these as achievements? " Pitroda questioned.

Skill development scheme not working

" The skill development scheme launched by the centre has failed. Centre has failed to use implement the scheme effectively to create jobs" Sam said.

KPCC leaders Manjunath Bhandari, Suresh Shetty, Madhu Yaski Goud, DCC President Harish Kumar, Naveen D'Souza were present.

Udupi: Udupi City Police have registered a case of online fraud after a 62-year-old hotel chef was allegedly cheated of Rs 1.13 lakh by a woman who befriended him on WhatsApp, claiming to be based in London.
The victim, identified as Pandu Kariappa Poojary, a resident of Kuthpadi in Udupi, was working at a hotel in Mangaluru.

He reportedly came into contact with a woman identifying herself as Emilda William on WhatsApp. During their interactions, she told Poojary that she planned to start a cosmetics and hotel business in India and would meet him during a visit to Mangaluru.
On April 7, Emilda sent Poojary a flight ticket from London to Delhi via WhatsApp. The following day, Poojary received a phone call from a woman who informed him that Emilda had arrived at Delhi airport carrying a demand draft worth Rs 5 crore along with other items. The caller allegedly asked him to pay Rs 70,000.
Subsequently, Poojary also received a call from Emilda, who was reportedly crying and spoke about the situation. Believing the claims, he transferred a total of Rs 1,13,300 in phases using a scanner. He later realised that he had been cheated.
