Bantwala, May 21: Around 100 persons were booked under various columns in Vittla police station on charges of involving in a clash during the celebration of Congress-JDS victory over BJP in Bantwala and surrounding places.

Based on a complaint from Mohmmed Salim of Kelinja, the police have booked a case against Cheeku, Sumanth, Abhilash and Anand of Kepu on charges of abusing Abdul Aziz while he was walking on the road at Kelinja.

The police also booked Sali, Shamsheer, gram panchayat member Ubaid, Salim of Kelinja, Azeez, Sammas of Kodapadavu, Safwan and 15 others on charges of assaulting Sangha Parivar worker Chandrashekar during the celebration of victory at Kelinja.

In another case, based on a complaint of Haarun Rasheed, the police have booked Mithun and others on charges of damaging window panes by pelting stones at the house of Hassainar of Mangalapadavu.

Meanwhile, another person Umesh has lodged a complaint saying that a group of 10-12 persons, with clubs in their hands, stopped the vehicles on the road and assaulted him and others near Kudpaltadka cross. In this case, the police have booked Pradeep, Vinod, Ramesh Shetty, Ashwath, Vishveshvar Bhat, Amba Prasad, Vachan, Sudarshan Shetty, Prasad and Sharath.

Vishveshvar Bhat has lodged a complaint alleging that 150-200 Congress workers who were celebrating the victory in front of a provision store at Kudpaltadka Anialakodi with clubs and swords, shouted slogan in favor of Pakistan and against Hindu religion. In this case, the police have booked case against Anvar A, AK Khader, Mohmmed Ali Mittandadka, Kaleel Devasya, Farooq Muguli, Irshad Kanyan, Sattar Kanyan, Anvar Muguli, Safiq Darkhas, Noufal Seraje, Usman, Majeed Marathi Moole, Asif Mandyur and others.

In the same way, the police have also booked case against 23 persons on charges of obstructing them from discharging their duty.

A group reached Mangalapadavu on bikes, stopped vehicles on the road and shouted slogans against Congress workers. Following a complaint from DySP MN Prasanna, Bantwala police have booked cases against 30 BJP workers on charges of violating the deputy commissioner’s order and obstructing the police from discharging their duties.

Sharath Kumar K has lodged a case saying that a 30-member team who came on motor bikes from Kodangai abused BJP workers and assaulted Mudda, Dhanraj, Lakshmisha besides threatening them. In this case, the police have registered a case against Irshad Kudtamageru, Shamshuddin Kudtamageru, Akbar Kudtamageru, Bariq Kudtamugeru, Shafil Vittla, Abdul Fatah Karai, Nufiz Karai, and 15 others.

In another case, police have booked a case against Jainuddin, Nisar, Haneef, Nawaz, Iqbal and 15 others on charges of assaulting Harshith and Ganesh thinking that they are RSS workers.

Vittla police also booked a case against Nithin on charges of sending a message in the social media which can disturb the peace and harmony in the society.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.

“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.

The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.

Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.

There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
