Udupi: A major accident was averted on Wednesday when a fire broke out near the helipad at Areshiroor near Byndoor just as the helicopter in which CM Bommai arrived was about to take off.
The incident took place when the Chief Minister arrived at the helipad along with his wife to go to the Mookambika temple in Kollur.
The fire broke out after the Chief Minister's escort had left the area. It is believed that the swift air from the helicopter fan caused the fire.
However, the quick response of the Byndoor fire brigade team prevented the incident from turning into a major catastrophe. They swiftly moved into action and were able to extinguish the fire before any serious damage was done.
