Mangaluru, July 28: A native of Tamil Nadu Prof. B S Raman, an expert of Commerce, passed away at his hometown Ooty following a brief illness on Saturday.
The 81-year-old Raman served as the professor for 35 years from 1960 until his retirement in 1995, including as the head of the Department of Commerce. He was a writer of textbooks and had authored over 100 bestselling books on subjects like commerce, accountancy, economics and commercial law. He had continued writing books even after retirement.
Prof. Raman, who joined St. Aloysius College in 1960, was a strict disciplinarian. Over the course of his career, he became one of the most famous teachers of the college, with many of his students going on to become Chartered Accountants and pursuing other higher disciplines.
In 2016, Aloysius College of Management and the Old Student's Association honored him with the ‘The Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award 2016’.
He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

Jeddah, Nov 25: Flamboyant Indian opener Prithvi Shaw and seam-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur failed to find any takers but Washington Sundar was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 3.20 crore on the second day of the IPL mega auction here on Monday.
Also going unsold were New Zealand batting stars Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips.
South African veteran Faf du Plessis and West Indies' Rovman Powell were bought for Rs two crore and Rs 1.50 crore by Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively, but seasoned India batter Ajinkya Rahane went unsold.
The unsold players can find buyers later in the day during the accelerated auction if their names are given by the franchises.
