Mangaluru: Funds getting released for the North Karnataka districts is at a very low level, as the funds in the state budget are not being distributed equally. There is a need to form a new commission for the development of the North Karnataka, opined YSV Datta.

He delivered a special lecture on Akhand Karnataka during Alvas Nudisiri in a seminar held at the Ratnakar Vedike in St. Shishunal Shareef Hall in Moodabidri.

If three hoblis of south Karnataka are joined, it will be equal to one hobli of North Karnataka. Consequently, North Karnataka is becoming a mirage during the budget allocation. The need to review this has become most significant that ever. Money should be adequately distributed to build Akhand Karnataka, he said.

North Karnataka has been cheated in wealth distribution. Deposits in the nationalized banks in the districts of North Karnataka are at the highest level. Belagavi has Rs. 13,350 crore, Dharwad Rs. 10,919 crore, Ballary Rs 7,280 crore, Uttar Kannada Rs. 6,200 crore, Gulbarga Rs. 5,444 crore, Bagalkot Rs. 4,265 crore, Raichur Rs. 3,229 crore, Haveri Rs. 2,300 crore, Bidar Rs. 2,000 crore, and Gadag has Rs. 2081 crore deposit. The cash flow of North Karnataka, except Vijayapura, Haveri, Koppal and Yadgir districts, is higher than the average cash flow of the state. While the 21.2 is of the state, it is 40 of the North Karnataka. Even after this, priority was not given for the North Karnataka in the budget, he said.

Alva's Nudisiri president Dr. Mallika S. Ghanti, Alva's Foundation Chairman Mohan Alva and others were present.

Rajkot (PTI): Three officials of leading private banks were arrested for their alleged involvement in a Rs 2,500-crore cyber fraud racket in Gujarat's Rajkot district, bringing the number of those held so far in the case to 20, police said on Monday.

Those arrested were identified as Maulik Kamani, a personal manager at Yes Bank in Padadhari; Kalpesh Dangariya, a manager at Axis Bank in Jamnagar; and Anurag Baldha, a personal banker with HDFC Bank, Rajkot (Rural) Superintendent of Police Vijay Gurjar said.

Dangariya and Baldha were previously employed with Yes Bank, he added.

Kamani allegedly assisted the earlier arrested accused in opening and managing suspicious accounts. He also helped bypass banking alerts triggered by high-value transactions by submitting additional documentation to keep accounts active, the SP said.

Kamani was allegedly involved in cash withdrawals that were later routed through hawala channels (illegal money transfer system), supported by digital evidence recovered from his mobile device, he added.

Dangariya is accused of facilitating the opening of fraudulent accounts using fake or misrepresented identities, police said.

He also assisted in structuring documentation, including Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC)-related papers, to prevent transactions from being flagged as suspicious, they said.

On the other hand, Baldha opened new accounts after verification and certification processes as part of the racket, Gurjar informed.

All the three accused are in police custody, while others are in jail under judicial remand, SP said.

So far, police have identified 85 bank accounts linked to the racket with 535 complaints filed on the cyber crime portal.

The total transaction linked to the cyber fraud exceeds Rs 2,500 crore, police said.

The earlier fraud amount was pegged by police at Rs 1,500 crore.
