Vitla: An incident of crackers blasting at a manufacturing unit in Kambalabettu Nooji near Vitla, causing shock among the local residents, came to light on Friday.

A similar incident was reported from Kore in Madattadka of Mudnooru village here last year, when crackers blasted in large numbers. In addition, heavy damage to the nearby environment was reported.

In a third incident, a cracker blast at Nooji several years ago resulted in the death of two workers.

People are now expressing fear as not only are high-volume explosion sounds being heard from the same place again, but fumes have also filled the air.

The crackers to be used during the festival at the local temple were reportedly manufactured and stocked by Gafur, a resident of Kambalabettu. The crackers, however, are said to have suddenly exploded due to the afternoon heat. No fatalities have been reported in the incident as neither workers nor residents were near the spot.

In 2017, two workers had died on the spot in an explosion that occurred near Gafur’s residence. Although a case had been filed, the court is yet to pass its judgment.

The explosion reported on Friday is learned to have occurred very close to the site that witnessed the blast in 2017.

Revenue Inspector Ravi, Vitla Police Inspector Prakash Devadiga, Sub-Inspector Ramakrishna and constables visited the spot and inspected it.

A primary investigation into the matter has revealed that no official permission had been issued for the manufacture of crackers in the area.

Ludhiana (PTI): Six persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of Congress leader Parminder Tiwari, who was hacked to death with an axe on Sunday in Machhiwara here.

Tiwari, the block president of the Congress party from Machhiwara in Ludhiana, was murdered on March 29 while sitting outside his rented quarters near Takhran village

Deputy Commissioner of Police Jaskaranjit Singh Teja stated the case is neither linked to politics nor gang rivalry.

The main accused, Vijay Kumar and Lucky, were apprehended in Jamalpura village in Munger district, Bihar, by a special team dispatched there, police said.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects aimed to illegally occupy a piece of panchayat land in the Machiwara area, but Tiwari opposed their plans. The accused allegedly visited Tiwari at his rented quarters on March 29 and attacked him with an axe, resulting in his immediate death, officials said.

The other four individuals arrested are relatives of the main accused and were aware of the murder plot, the DCP added.

Police have recovered the axe used in the crime, as well as the motorcycle the accused used to flee the scene.
