Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Swimming Association (DKSA) has conducted State Level Non- Medalist Swimming Competition on 28th and 29th December 2019 at City Corporation Swimming Pool in Mangaluru.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath, former IG Gopal B Hosur, President of Karnataka Swimming Association Premananda Shetty, Corporators Sandhya B Achar, Pradeep D’Souza, Deputy Director, Dept. of Sports, Youth and Empowerment and other dignitaries inaugurated the event in the presence of DKSA President Dharmendra K, Gen Secretary (Sports) Prasanna Mallya, and Gen Secretary (Admin) Dr. B Ramachandra Bhat.
Former IG Gopal B Hosur and President of Karnataka Swimming Association appreciated the Dakshina Kannada swimmers for their achievement with the limited facilities. They will achieve greater heights if the Government and association support them in the right direction. The present pool time in the evening is available only from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM for the competitive swimmers. More pools must come up in various localities for the benefit of swimmers, he stressed.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath agreed to support the construction of 25 m pool exclusively for the competitive swimmers with a budget of Rs.3 crore from the smart city project. This pool will be constructed just behind the existing Corporation Swimming Pool.
All the swimmers who have been selected for Nationals through SFI, SGFI, CBSE, ICSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Vidya Bharathi were felicitated with cash award and shawl. This was the maiden attempt by DKSA to support swimmers. DKSA aims to continue to conduct such events in the future and also felicitate swimmers with the support of sponsors and well-wishers.
All the club presidents and coaches were felicitated during the inauguration for their contribution to the success of the upcoming swimmers.
Around 400 swimmers participated through various clubs/schools in this competition from across Karnataka.
Dakshina Kannada teams namely Mangala Swimming Club, Jaihind Swimming Club, and Puttur Aquatic Club bagged the Winners, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up trophies, respectively.
Shri Ravindra L Shet, Proprietor of M/s S L Shet and Dr. Muralee Mohan Choontharu were the Chief Guests for the closing ceremony.

Mumbai (PTI): Ryan Rickelton's whirlwind unbeaten ton was overshadowed by Heinrich Klaasen's unbeaten 65 as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Mumbai Indians by six wickets in an IPL match here on Wednesday.
Chasing an imposing 244-run target, Travis Head (76 off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (45 off 24) shared 129 runs for the opening wicket to set the platform for SRH.
Klaasen (65 not out off 30 balls) then displayed his all-round hitting abilities to guide SRH home with the help of Nitish Kumar Reddy (21) and Salil Arora (30 not out off 10) in 18.4 overs.
Earlier, Rickelton's knock powered MI to 243 for five.
MI rode on a 93-run stand between Rickelton (123 not out off 55 balls) and Will Jacks (46 off 22) in 7.1 overs for the opening stand to power the side.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya scored a valuable 31 off 15 balls before being dismissed.
Praful Hinge (2/54), Eshan Malinga (1/29), Sakib Hasan (1/39) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1/31) were the wicket-takers for SRH.
