Udupi: Two more women have been arrested in connection with the assault on a Dalit woman who was tied to a tree and beaten on charges of stealing fish at Malpe port on Tuesday morning.

District Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K. confirmed the arrests and stated that two beat constables have been suspended for failing to properly handle the case. The accused, identified as Leela and Parvati, have been taken into custody as the investigation continues.

Additionally, Head Constable Suresh and Police Constable Nagaraj have been suspended for negligence in gathering information related to the assault.

The State Women’s Commission has strongly condemned the incident, calling it an inhumane act. In a statement, the SP emphasized that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible and assured that a comprehensive report on the measures taken would be submitted to the commission at the earliest.

Tirupati (PTI): A Chennai-based devotee on Saturday donated an electric bus to TTD, which the temple body promised to utilise for freely ferrying pilgrims.

Vardhaman Jain handed over the keys of the bus to TTD additional executive officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdhary.

"Jain donated an electric bus to TTD on Saturday morning," said an official press release from the temple body.

The donor performed special prayers for the bus in front of the Sri Venkateswara temple.

TTD is the official custodian of Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple, considered the richest Hindu shrine in the world.
