Dharmasthala: The Dharmasthala Police have formally registered a case concerning the disappearance of medical student Ananya Bhat, who went missing from the premises of the Dharmasthala temple in 2003. The complaint was filed by Ananya’s mother on July 15, 2025, at the Dharmasthala Police Station, a press statement from the police department stated.

The case has been recorded as No. 175/PTN/DPS/2025 and has been handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for further inquiry. The SIT, which is currently handling the high-profile mass burial case, will now also probe Ananya’s disappearance, following an order issued by the Hon’ble Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) on August 19, 2025.

Ananya Bhat, then a medical student, reportedly disappeared while visiting the Dharmasthala temple more than two decades ago. Despite numerous appeals and investigations over the years, her whereabouts remained unknown. The renewed attention to the case follows the recent complaint by her mother seeking a detailed probe into the circumstances surrounding Ananya’s disappearance.

Noida (PTI): A 46-year-old businessman was burnt to death after his moving car caught fire in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the victim was identified as Rajkumar Singhal, who was engaged in the paint business. The incident occurred late on Monday night near Sorkha village under the Sector 113 police station area.

Station House Officer Krishna Gopal Sharma said Singhal was driving towards Parthala Chowk when his vehicle suddenly caught fire for reasons yet to be ascertained.

Singhal was unable to get out of the car and died in the blaze, the SHO said.

Fire tenders reached the spot after receiving information, but the car had already been gutted, police said. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and an investigation is underway.

Police suspect the presence of paint or other inflammable material in the car may have caused the fire to spread rapidly.
