Belthangady: Amid the investigation of the Dharmasthala mass burial case by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the government, the Dharmasthala Gram Panchayat has issued a statement that it has no records in relation to the payment made to the KS Hegde Medical Academy Hospital, Mangaluru, to keep unidentified bodies in the hospital mortuary.

The statement has been issued in response to an RTI application filed by a citizen of Belthangady, Prabhakar Nayak. 

Nayak had sought information on the amount paid to the hospital between 2000 and 2025 to retain unidentified corpses in the hospital mortuary after conducting the post-mortem examination and while a search was on for the relatives of the deceased.

Bengaluru: A special court for people’s representatives has sentenced Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and 16 others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of BJP leader Yogish Goudar.

The verdict was delivered by judge Santhosh Gajanana Bhat. The court had earlier, on Wednesday, held all 17 accused guilty of murdering Goudar, while reserving the quantum of punishment.

On Friday, the court pronounced the sentence, awarding life imprisonment to all the convicted persons in the case.

Yogish Goudar, a BJP member from the Hebballi Zilla Panchayat constituency in Dharwad district, was murdered in 2016.
