Beltangady: The bail plea of Chinnayya, who is currently in judicial custody in connection with the Dharmasthala case, was rejected on September 16.

The case came to light after Chinnaiah appeared before the Beltangady court claiming that several human skeletons were buried in Dharmasthala village of Beltangady taluk, which led to a series of developments.

Beltangady SIT officials arrested Chinnayya on August 23 in connection with the skeleton case and produced him before the Beltangady court. He was remanded to police custody for 12 days for investigation. On September 3, he was produced again and taken into custody for another three days of further interrogation. On September 6 evening, he was presented before the court and was sent to judicial custody. At present, Chinnayya is lodged in Shivamogga jail.

Through the District Legal Services Authority, a lawyer was arranged for Chinnayya, and a bail petition was filed. The petition was argued on September 12 and posted for orders on September 16.

However, the court observed that the case against Chinnayya is serious and the investigation is still incomplete. More inquiry is necessary. Hence, on September 16, Beltangady Additional Civil Judge and JMFC T.H. Vijayendra rejected the bail plea.
