Mangaluru: The 42nd annual convocation program of Mangalore University will be held on June 15 Saturday here at the Mangala auditorium in the universities campus in Mangalore.
Professor Sachin Chaturvedi director general of research and information system for developing countries New Delhi will be the chief guest of the event.
During the event the university will award on the doctorate to Dubai-based prominent NRI Businessman and Philanthropist Dr. Ronald Colaco, Founder Presidet of MRG Group Prakash Shetty, and Founder President of Thumbay Group Dr. Thumbay Moideen, the university announced in a press conference on Friday.
During the convocation Mangalore University will award 155 Doctor of Philosophy degrees (Arts 51, Science 73, Commerce 26 and Education 05). Out of 155 P6D candidates, 60(38.70%) are women candidates and 95 161.29%) are men candidates, in this 18 men and 04 female are foreign nationals. There are 58 Gold Medals and 57 Cash Prizes Two Gold medals have been converted into cash prizes. There are 168 Ranks, out of which 72 students are 1" rank holders (P.G-52 & UG-20: Arts- 31; Science & Technology-75 Commerce 41; Education 211.
Governor of Karnataka and the Chancellor of the University His Excellency Sri Thawar Chand Gehlot will preside and confer the degrees to all the candidates. Dr. M.C. Sudhakar, Minister for Higher Education, Government of Karnataka and the Pro-Chancellor of the University will be participate and grace the occasion.
Out of 3,094 PG. students who have passed, 839 (27.10%) are boys and 2,255 (72.90%) are girls. Similarly at the U.G. level, out of 18,225 candidates who passed, 6,639 (36.50%) are boys and the remaining 11,586 (63.60%) are girls. With regard to the gender composition, out of 21,319 total number of candidates who passed, 8,097 (38.00%) are boys (Pass percentage of boys 65.20%) and 13,841 (65.00%) are girls (Pass percentage of girls 81.30%).

Pilibhit (PTI): A 19-day-old elephant calf, brought from Bijnor, was placed under care at the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) on Sunday, an official said and added that the calf got separated from its mother in the forest area of Bijnor.
The calf was born on December 2 in the Bijnor forest area and got separated from its mother shortly after birth, the official said.
The forest department made several attempts to reunite it with its mother, but without any success. To ensure the calf's safety and better care, it was decided to transfer it to the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve on the instructions of senior officials.
On Saturday, Deputy Director Manish Singh received the calf. Special arrangements have been made in the reserve for its care. It has been kept in a safe and clean environment to provide it with a natural setting and protect it from external noise and disturbances.
Singh told reporters that raising an 19-day-old calf is challenging.
It requires a special diet as a substitute for mother's milk and constant monitoring.
He said a special team has been formed to provide 24-hour care. Since the calf is very young, it is being cared for like a newborn baby.
According to Singh, the primary responsibility for monitoring the calf's health has been entrusted to PTR's veterinarian, Dr Daksh Gangwar. Under his supervision, a complete record of the calf's health checkups, diet, and body temperature is being maintained. The team is ensuring that the calf does not contract any infection.
