Mangaluru, June 15: Thousands of Muslim Brethren celebrated across the coastal districts, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi celebrated Eid ul Fitr on Friday with devotion and gaiety.

Muslim brethren gathered at Eidgah Masjid at Light House Hill at 8am and took part in special namaaz. D.K district Khazi Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar led the Eid namaaz and delivered the sermon.

Y.Abdullah Kunhi, president of Eidgah masjid and Zeenath Bhaksh masjid, former education minister B.A Moidin, state urban development and housing minister U.T Khader, former president of D.K district Walkf board S.M Rasheed Haji, trustees of Zeenath Bhaksh jumma masjid Basha Tangal, K.Ashraf, Samad H.B.T, Addu Haji, Ashraf, Qatib of Zeenath Bhaksh masjid Sadakthullah Faizi, Qatib of Eidgah Jumma masjid Sadakathullah Nadavi, Qatib of Carstreet Shamiya masjid and C.Muhammed haji were present.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLA J.R Lobo, police commissioner Vipul Kumar visited Eidgah masjid and greeted Muslim brethrens on this auspicious occasion.

Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.

Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.

 

Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
