Mangaluru: Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel has stated that the ongoing fight against Suratkal tollgate was politically motivated

Addressing a press conference at DK district BJP office on Friday, MP Kateel said that Mukka Tollgate near Suratkal was constructed under the UPA regime. Oscar Fernandes was the union minister at the time. Now those who did not oppose the tollgate then, are now opposing it. Hence this struggle is politically motivated.

The toll is being collected near Kanhangadi bridge. There, CPM did not raise voice. Whether the CPM's policy is separate to Kerala and Karnataka, asked Nalin adding "we are still committed to removing the tollgates at Mukka and BC Road. As stated earlier, over bridge works at Thokkottu and Pumpwell will be completed in December and January respectively."

MLAs Sanjeeva Matandur, Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty, Umanath Kotian, party leader Harikrishna Bantwal, Brijesh Chowta, Kishore Rai, Jitendra Kottari and others were present.
