Malpe: In an incident reported from near Thottam here, four men who were in danger of drowning as their boat capsized while fishing, were rescued on Friday morning.

The fishermen went out into the sea in a boat owned by a local, Jeevan, but the boat is learned to have capsized as it got caught in a wave.

The locals, who noticed the men struggling for survival, immediately called swimming expert Eshwar Malpe and his team of rescuers. Malpe, along his team and two fishermen, Praveen and Uday, reportedly swam out into the sea and rescued the four men, urgently fitting life-jackets on them.

In the backdrop of the incident, Eshwar Malpe urged fishermen to necessarily wear life-jackets while going out into the sea, pointing out that the sea has become rough and forceful due to the incessant rain over the last few days.
