Mangaluru: Mangalore City Police Commissioner, Kuldeep Kumar Jain, revealed that cannabis-laced chocolates were discovered during a recent raid on shops located in Car Street and another area of the city.

On July 19, the Bunder Police conducted a raid at the Vaibhav Pooja Sales shop in Car Street and seized a total of 300 packets of chocolates, each containing 40 pieces, along with an additional 592 individual chocolates. The estimated value of the seized chocolates amounted to Rs 48,000. Subsequently, a case was registered against the shop owner, Manohar Shet, at the Bunder police station.

On the same day, the Pandeshwar police carried out a raid at a shop in their jurisdiction and seized chocolates valued at Rs 5,500. The shop owner, identified as Bechan Sonkar, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was charged and the chocolates were confiscated.

To ascertain the presence of any illicit substances, the police sent the seized chocolates to the forensic science laboratory for analysis. The laboratory report confirmed the presence of Ganja in the chocolates, leading to legal action being taken against the two accused. Both individuals have been remanded in judicial custody.

Gangtok (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched development projects worth over Rs 4,000 crore in Sikkim while attending the closing ceremony of the state's 50 years of statehood celebrations.

The projects span a wide range of sectors such as infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, power, urban development, environment, tourism and agriculture, the officials said.

These projects are aimed at accelerating holistic and inclusive development in Sikkim.

The PM's visit marks an important milestone in the golden jubilee year of Sikkim's statehood and reflects the government's "continued commitment to the rapid and sustainable development of the Himalayan state", the officials said.
