Mangaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara has announced the government's plan to establish an "anti-communal wing" within the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru Commissionerate to curb immoral policing activities.

Speaking at a press conference held at the City Police Commissioner's office, Parameshwara stated that the wing would be set up in Mangaluru on a trial basis, with the officers appointed by the Commissioner. If successful, the government intends to expand the wing to other taluks in Dakshina Kannada district and eventually throughout the state.

Emphasizing the government's commitment to promoting peace and harmony in society, Parameshwara expressed disappointment at the increasing number of cases involving immoral policing in the coastal belt. He noted that these districts are home to educated and knowledgeable individuals, making the situation all the more unfortunate.

In a gesture of support to the affected families, the Home Minister announced that the government would provide relief to the family members of Fazil, Masood, and Jalil, who were allegedly murdered by right-wing activists in the region in 2022. The families and local organizations had appealed for compensation from the government on behalf of the victims' relatives.

Turning to the issue of drug trafficking, Parameshwara informed the gathering that the concerned officers have been given a deadline of August 15 to tackle this social menace effectively.

The press conference was attended by ADGP Alok Kumar, DIG (West) Dr. Chandragupta, and Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain, among others.
