Mangaluru: Following heavy and continuous rainfall in the district, the district administration, as a precautionary measure, has announced holiday for all schools and colleges (till PUC) in the district on July 23.

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said that based on the rain forecast released by the MET department, the coastal region in the state has been receiving heavy rains. Every day till July 25, it was expected 200 mm rainfall and already, red alert has been declared in the district, he said.

Parents should take care about their children from letting them to low-lying areas, tanks, rivers and sea shores. Fishermen should restraint themselves from venturing into the sea for fishing. All district and taluk level officers should compulsorily stay in head quarters, the DC said.

Belthangady: A woman in her mid-50s from Guddethota in Shishila village here died after suffering a snake bite while working in a plantation on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Prema (55), was reportedly bitten by a cobra when working in a plantation located in Shishila village of the taluk on Sunday afternoon.

The members of the Shourya Disaster Response Team, who were informed of the incident, arrived at the plantation and took Prema to the Puttur Government Hospital, but the patient is learned to have died due to the intensity of the snake venom.

Prema is survived by her daughter and son.
