Mangaluru: Relentless rainfall continues to disrupt life across Dakshina Kannada district, with multiple incidents of landslides and structural collapses reported since Saturday. Several roads have been blocked due to mudslides and compound wall collapses, severely affecting vehicular movement.
Rain has been pouring without a break for the past three days. On Saturday, widespread waterlogging submerged many parts of Mangaluru city, with rainwater entering homes in low-lying areas. The downpour continued into Sunday, further disrupting daily life.
In Pandeshwar’s Shivanagar 4th Cross area, rainwater inundated several homes and roads, making vehicular movement impossible. Residents have reported severe disruptions due to flooding.
Between 8:30 AM on June 14 and 8:30 AM on June 15, the district recorded a total of 244.4 mm of rainfall. Pudu in Bantwal taluk recorded the highest with 189.5 mm, while Kedambady in Puttur reported the lowest at 40.5 mm.
A compound wall at Father Muller’s campus in Kankanady collapsed on Saturday evening, spilling debris onto Suvarna Line Road. The incident occurred near the 4th Cross of Suvarna Line, blocking traffic. Despite efforts to clear the debris immediately, the extent of the collapse has hindered complete clearance, causing ongoing traffic disruptions.
The fallen wall also brought down a nearby electric pole, cutting off power supply to the area. Residents have been without electricity since Saturday evening. Although MESCOM personnel began restoration work immediately, continuous rain has hampered efforts. As of Sunday afternoon, power supply had not yet been restored.
Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and exercise caution as heavy rains are expected to continue.
