Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V on Sunday issued an order declaring holiday for schools across Dakshina Kannada district on August 18.
According to the order all Anganwadi centers, government, aided and private primary and high schools in Dakshina Kannada district will remain closed on August 18 as a precautionary measure due to continuous rains across the district and in the wake of the weather department's forecast.
The Indian Meterlogical Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has issued a red alert for the district, in the backdrop of a cyclonic formation in the Bay of Bengal.

Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.
Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.
Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
