Mangaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is trying to get back into power in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) after losing the 2013 Elections has fielded four candidates from minority communities to consolidate votes of minorities during the election.
BJP came into power in MCC for the first time in 2008 but lost power in 2013 and is trying to claim power again. The four candidates from minority communities fielded by BJP includes three women candidate. Asha D’Souza who was elected on Congress ticket from Kankanady-Valencia (ward no 48) in the previous election was left out by her party this time. The BJP has got her onboard and has her contesting from Falnir ward.
Asha D’Souza will be seeded against Former Mayor of MCC and four-time corporator from Congress, Jesinta Vijay Alfred who will be contesting her fifth election after being undefeated for four continuous terms.
From ward no. 38 (Bunder) BJP has fielded Jessel Voila D’Souza against senior corporator and Congress candidate Naveen D’Souza. Naveen who is contesting his fourth MCC Election was also a nominated member of the council for one year.
From ward no. 5 (Kattipala North) BJP has fielded Surayya against Congress’ Fathima Bi. Similarly from ward no. 43 (Kudroli) BJP has fielded Arshad against Shamsuddin.
The saffron party has clearly gone with the ‘horses for courses’ policy in the upcoming elections that will be held in November 14.
Congress and BJP have both fielded candidates on all 60 wards while JD(s), SDPI, CPI, CPI (M), WPI have also fielded candidates from selected seats along with other Independent candidates. A total of 191 nominations have been filed for 60 wards election.

Hampi (PTI): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday launched Cyient AI Labs (CyAILS) -- 'VijAIpatha', aimed at democratising access to Artificial Intelligence, STEM and Robotics education in government schools here.
In a series of posts on 'X', the minister's office shared pictures of the initiative launched at a girl's government school in Hosapete taluk and said that under the pilot phase, five world-class AI, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Robotics laboratories are being established in government schools.
Each lab will be equipped with high-performance computers, AI-ready software, robotics kits, IoT devices, sensors and secure broadband connectivity.

"Aligned with NEP 2020, Digital India and Hon'ble Prime Minister @narendramodi's mission of Viksit Bharat 2047, the programme integrates CBSE's AI curriculum and strengthens technology-enabled learning in public education," it said.
Focusing on rural and semi-urban India, the initiative introduces future technologies at the school level, helping build early digital fluency, computational thinking and innovation capacity among students, the minister's office said.
"Benefiting over 2,000 students and training more than 200 teachers, 'VijAIpatha' is a scalable CSR model fostering innovation, career readiness and grassroots digital empowerment," it added.
According to the office, the initiative has been designed as a scalable, replicable and sustainable model that can be adopted across districts and states in collaboration with government education departments, positioning it as a benchmark CSR model for a national AI education rollout.
