Mangaluru: The KPCC President D. K. Shivakumar spoke to the media at the Mangaluru International Airport and said, “When I was the Minister for Energy, an individual had phoned me and used profanities to insult me. Afterward, the officials registered a complaint. That individual had insulted the officials as well. Concerning that case, the court had directed me to present myself as the witness, therefore I have arrived now in submission to the court”, he said.
“It is our right to protest in a democratic system. Protesting in a non-violent manner is a method taught to us by Gandhiji. The farmers have been conducting peaceful protests for the last 10 months, however, including the Prime Minister, no officials have engaged with the farmers. A Union Minister’s son ran his car over the protesting farmers, killing 4 people. The people who witnessed this have attacked in fury. This incident should not have occurred. But, those who were responsible for this have not been arrested, neither has the Minister resigned, is this even a government?” he questioned.
“Priyanka Gandhi who came forward to console the bereaved families of the dead farmers was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police. Consoling the suffering is a political duty. When she went to perform this duty, male police officers have resorted to dragging her and thus violated her rights. This is an insult to the Indian culture in its entirety”, he said.
During the occasion, Former Minister Ramanath Rai, Abhaychandra Jain, former MLA J.R. Lobo, Mohiuddin Bava, Ivan D’Souza, Harish Kumar, P.V. Mohan, and others were present.
