IDS' monthly ‘Design Celebration’: Award winning architect Monica Kamath interacts with students
Mangaluru: The Indian Design School hosted its monthly ‘Design Celebration’ on Thursday, 25th November 2021 where award-winning, celebrated architects and interior designers across the country are invited for conducting talks on design, projects, and professional practice.
“It serves as a platform where exchange of ideas and knowledge takes place to inspire young and creative minds to achieve excellence. The talk is generally followed by the presentation of the event sponsors” a press statement from the IDS stated.
Ar. Monica Kamath was the guest speaker, during the event along with Aaskin Technologies as the industry partner. Ar. Monica Kamath is an award-winning practicing architect and interior designer. She is the founder and one of the partners of 2PKM Architects and a member of COA and AIIA.
“Her firm has been at the forefront in providing innovative and pragmatic architectural and interior design solutions in various parts of South India. With over 25 years of experience in the field, she has worked in various architectural firms and interior firms in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Mangalore. Currently, she is involved in the design and implementation of interior and renovation projects,” the press statement added.
The theme of the event was “Functional design in architecture and interiors”, where Ar. Monica presented some of her best projects, explaining the design process from concept to execution, and the challenges behind each project to make it cost-effective, highly functional, and with great aesthetic appeal. The talk provided the students with an in-depth understanding of materials, budget and site constraints, and construction management. A question-answer session was conducted at the end of the talk which gave the students further clarity on finer details of design.
The design talk was followed by the presentation of Aaskin Technologies, who gave detailed information on several of the products offered by the company to architects and interior designers. Aaskin Technologies is a group of young engineers from South India, focusing mainly on green energy solutions, embedded products, and automation platforms. Aaskin displayed physical samples of different types of smart and secure home solutions, home automation, live Surveillance, gate & shutter control, etc., and explained the mechanisms and the details of each by means of practical and hands-on approach – the core value of IDS.
The event concluded with Ar. Monica Kamath and Aaskin Technologies being awarded the certificate of appreciation by the Chairman – Ar. Mohammed Nissar, the Director – Dr. Nafeesa Shirin and the Principal – Ar. Ramnath Nayak of Indian Design School.

BJP worker dies by self-immolation outside realtor’s house in Kalaburagi
Kalaburagi: A 35-year-old BJP worker died after setting herself on fire outside the house of a realtor in Nandikur village of Kalaburagi taluk on Friday night. According to police the deceased has been identified as Jyothi Patil and a case of abetment of suicide has been registered against the realtor, Mallinath Biradar.
In a report published by Deccan Herald, the local police said Jyothi arrived at Biradar’s house late in the evening and knocked on the door. At the time, his wife and three children were inside the house. When the door was opened, Jyothi asked for Biradar and before the family members could respond or intervene, she allegedly poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze.

Locals rushed to the scene, but the fire's intensity made it difficult to identify the victim. Police officers who arrived on the scene later discovered documents inside a two-wheeler parked near the house. These documents assisted officials in determining her identification. Jyothi’s husband was subsequently called to the spot to confirm it.
