Bhatkal: In a move prompted by spread of unverified and fake messages about spread of Corona Virus in and around Bhatkal Taluk, local Police and Taluk Administration have warned the WhatsApp group admins against forwarding unverified and unauthentic messages on the messaging platform.
Taking not of some of the viral messages that reportedly triggered panic among the local residents adding that suspected Corona Virus cases were reported in the Taluk, Bhatkal DSP KC Goutham added that strict action will be taken against those who are found to be sending and forwarding fake and unverified messages on social media.
Goutham also warned group admins and called on them to monitor their respective groups and to report to police, any messages that can lead to panic among people.
Goutham also called on local and regional media house to verify and ascertain facts before publishing stories and added that Twitter and Facebook accounts of the office of Superintendent of Police Uttara Kannada District are being actively used to provide information about COVID-19 cases in the District.
He urged the media reporters to collect information from Twitter and Facebook handle of SP Office.
Recently a viral message had claimed that there were at least 12 people in Bhatkal with travel history to UAE who were reported to be suspected Corona Virus patient. The administration had then clarified that they were being monitored as a precautionary measure and that none of them had tested positive for Corona Virus. It turned out that the flight they were all travelling in, had a person who later tested positive for COVID-19 infection and all the passengers who travelled on the flight including 12 people from Bhatkal were asked to report to the District authorities as a part of precautionary measure.

Mumbai (PTI): Ryan Rickelton's whirlwind unbeaten ton was overshadowed by Heinrich Klaasen's unbeaten 65 as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Mumbai Indians by six wickets in an IPL match here on Wednesday.
Chasing an imposing 244-run target, Travis Head (76 off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (45 off 24) shared 129 runs for the opening wicket to set the platform for SRH.
Klaasen (65 not out off 30 balls) then displayed his all-round hitting abilities to guide SRH home with the help of Nitish Kumar Reddy (21) and Salil Arora (30 not out off 10) in 18.4 overs.
Earlier, Rickelton's knock powered MI to 243 for five.
MI rode on a 93-run stand between Rickelton (123 not out off 55 balls) and Will Jacks (46 off 22) in 7.1 overs for the opening stand to power the side.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya scored a valuable 31 off 15 balls before being dismissed.
Praful Hinge (2/54), Eshan Malinga (1/29), Sakib Hasan (1/39) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1/31) were the wicket-takers for SRH.
