Mangaluru: The Indian Coastguard team rescued ten fishermen from a boat in Tamil Nadu, which was stranded in the sea near New Mangalore port.

A Tamil Nadu registered fishing boat St. Joseph (Reg No, IND-TN-15-MM-5844) had sailed from Kochi with a crew of 10 onboard. In the incredibly rough seas, the ship lost its engine and navigation control and was stranded off the New Mangalore Port due to engine failure.

The coast guards ship ICGS Amartya intercepted the distress message of the stranded boat on June 8 and rescue efforts were launched immediately. Now all the ten sailors have been brought safely to Mangaluru port.

The Coast Guard's District Commander (Karnata) DIG SS Dasila said that the fishermen who are fearing for their life due to the inclement weather signalled the coast guard for rescuing them. Then ICG vessel successfully connected a tow to the ship and shifted them to NMPT port.
