Sullia, August 19: Three north Indians who were trapped on a hill when the hill sunk between Sampaje and Madikeri on Friday, were rescued by rescue teams on Sunday.

The three labourers working in a rubber plantation at Jodupala took shelter under a tree on the hill when the hill collapsed. On Sunday, NDRF, police and rescue teams traced them and brought them to the Sampaje gruel centre and treated them at the centre. Meanwhile, the entire area where the landslide was happened, was covered with thick fog and the rescue teams are finding it difficult to carry out the operation. As the hillock was collapsed, three house under the foot of the hill were completely damaged. It is said that at this time many people were trapped under the building and mud. So far two bodies were recovered. hundreds of people affected from the collapse of the hill were taken to the gruel centre. It is said that many more people are trapped in the region.

New Delhi (PTI): Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will undertake a three-day visit to Washington DC beginning Wednesday to review the full spectrum of India-US ties.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Misri's April 8-10 trip will provide an opportunity to advance ongoing bilateral cooperation across key areas.

"The visit will provide an opportunity to review the full spectrum of India-US bilateral relations and advance ongoing cooperation across key areas," it said in a statement.

The MEA said the foreign secretary will hold discussions with senior officials of the US administration on a wide range of issues, including trade, defence, science and technology, as well as regional and global developments of mutual interest.

"The visit follows the External Affairs Minister's visit to Washington DC in February and is in keeping with the regular high-level exchanges between the two sides," it added.
